Central lock problem, rear door and trunk donīt open

I have a problem on my X5, the remote key can only open the front doors, rear doors and trunk does not work? Iīm in a distante country without any BMW representative, but I can order the parts easily from Europe or U.S.

What do you think is can causing this and waht part do I need? Thanks for the help.

It may or may not be related to what happened to my X5 before.

1. Remote keys can only lock and unlock the front doors, the rear door locks does not respond. But I have not checked the trunk door lock.

2. Same outcome when I used the central locking button (by the AT shifter knob) it can only lock and unlock the front doors, the rear door locks does not respond. But I have not checked the trunk door lock.

I thought I need to replace my 2 rear door actuator, but it turned out to be the GM3 Module "Body Module" - no relay signal, I bought a new one (not cheap!) and re-programmed. It fixed the rear doors lock and unlock operation.

Kept the old one as a spare ( but this guy need to fix it for me BMW General Module 5 (GMV, ZKE V) )

In your case, you need to troubleshoot further and isolate the faulty component, to make sure you are replacing the correct part(s).

And your trunk door - lock and unlock operation might be a separate issue and part to replace.

I would check wiring going to the tailgate at the top for any broken wires ,especially where the wires are bending all the time when opening the tailgate (trunk).

Do the rear door locks respond when using the key manually in the driver's door lock? Or does the problem only occur when using remote unlocking?

As Ihord mentioned already...the rear door locks are controlled by the GM whereas the front door lock actuators are controlled by each door's control module (SZFT/SZBT).

Help us help you better by creating a signature that includes your model/model year/build date. Or remember to include this information because there are lots of changes during the production run from 1999-2006.

I can't tell from the avatar if you are LHD/RHD (left hand drive/right hand drive)...pre-face lift or face lift...and the rear tail gate actuators changed as well as the location of some of the relays the GM sends data to for the tail gate. But poodinboo's suggestion to check the wiring harness is a good start...but again...the SCA (soft close actuation) feature of the facelift models rear tail gate...created a slight difference in operation.

Again, I'm not sure how accurate the diagram below is because we don't know what your model year/build date is...but you can see how the doors/tailgate/GM III are connected/controlled...and the diagram also gives the build date as to the accuracy of the diagram regarding the tail gate components (which is an example as to why listing your model/model year/build date is important in how specific & accurate the replies/suggestions/recommendations you get from forum members):

Than you so much for your precious answers dear members.

My car is 4.4l from 2000. I had 6 months ago this same problem, it was the fuse. This time the fuse is ok, but when I try to lock or unlock the doors with the remote key, only the front doors open it won't unlock or lock the rear doors and rear trunk. If I try to open manually, it's only possible if I open with manual lever , but only from outside, from inside the car, the rear doors don't open ! If I use the inside lock button it will only lock or unlock the front doors, rear doors stays unlock! If I use the rear trunk button on the dash, it won't unlock the rear trunk either! From what I read on your answers seems I need a new GM! I need to be sure because I will order the part by internet, can't send it back after, if it is not the right part! Thanks again for you help.

Where is this GM3 module located? How much did it cost you? Is it a plug & play installation or do you have the take the car apart to reach it?

On my X5

1. Glove Box
2. New part # 61359117101
3. Retail: $ 504.95 Discounted Prince: $ 374.17 (source: BMW Parts - Shop BMW OEM Parts Online at BMW of South Atlanta)

On you X5, please verify the part number @ RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog (key in your vin number) and look for "basic module" under Vehicle electrical system => control units, modules, sensors, relays.

You need a programming platform ISTA/p or SSS Progman or other related aftermarket bmw supported platform

Note: The GM3, once you bought it, opened it and programmed it. IT NOT returnable unless it has manufacturing defects. SO MAKE SURE THIS IS THE PART YOU NEED (this not cheap!)
