HIRISC is on a distinguished road
My wife left her key in her purse on the front seat of her 2012 550xi, got out of the car, shut her driver's door, went to open my 2 year old son's door and the doors locked.

To exacerbate that particular failure, BMW could not remotely unlock the car which sat in the middle of a Target parking lot in a major metro area.

I drove 20 miles home from my office to fetch a spare key. Utter failure.

She now has to wear her BMW key around her neck on a lanyard (literally) to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Last year, my 2013 X5 50i was in the service bay of our AD with the key sitting on the dashboard when the service tech addressed the driver's door.. it locked and it took them about an hour to get into the car.

BMW has many opportunities around this (key proximity awareness) - and I'm being very kind by not elaborating further.
