A friend of mine owns an old Hilux 2.8 diesel that he boasted about not having had to serviced for 6 years and how much he had saved. I caught up with him recently and asked how the old truck was going? He said it blew up with an all mighty bang when he was about 300 kms from home. I asked what happened? A con-rod went through the side of the block and the engine oil that came out was more like crude or grease...Not that I'm wishing anything bad for anyone that chooses to avoid regular maintenance, but there's much to be said for servicing components that use oils for lubrication, as they do loose their properties and become contaminated.
