Speaking of tools, if you are going to remove the CV joint from the half shaft there's a special tool that makes it easy. Tool can be purchase on eBay, maybe Amazon.

Here's a video of the tool in action. You don't need to pull the driveshaft out of the diff and don't need to get a BFH to beat the cv joint off the half shaft.
