Personally, I'm not a fan of ~needing~ to condition leather...
The finish of leather is ~coated~ - aka, plastic/vinyl.
Yes, on some minute level, the conditioner will work through the stitching and depending on how worn the finish is, on a minute/macro level, maybe some will work past the coat and into the hide.

Conditioner IMO attracts dirts, etc, over the long term.
