Mike, sorry for the late reply, life got in the way...
Here is my understanding... When you replace something in the transmission you have to do the reset and relearning procedure. When you update the firmware the adaptations get flashed as well and you have to follow with the re-learning procedure.
So, in your case, if you already have the latest firmware then you only need to reset the adaptations and run the re-learning procedure. No point on re-flashing it. I believe, it has a limited number of updates.
I don't know if the re-learning procedure works without the reset, it might though.

Can you post Aaron's procedure here so we can try it as well.
