Registering a new battery removes the battery aging information from the IBS. This allows for more effective and efficient charging of the new battery. It may lead to longer battery life. The vehicle will still operate without registering a new battery.

Programming the battery type is only required if the battery type is changed from flooded lead-acid (flooded or FLA) to absorbent glass mat (AGM) or vice versa. This allows for battery charging at the appropriate voltages for the battery type in use. This will lead to longer battery life. The vehicle will still operate without programming the new battery type even it's changed.

Programming the battery size is only required if the Ampere-hour (Ah) capacity of the new battery differs from the previously installed one. This allows for battery charging at the proper rate. This will likely lead to longer battery life. The vehicle will still operate without programming a new battery capacity even if it's changed.

Programming the battery type and size are done in conjunction with each other, i.e., there is a finite number of battery types with corresponding capacities to select from.
