So the 2001-2006 X5 is not that bad, when the light is ON, there is low pressure somewhere, rarely false alarm in my experience...

Agreed. I trust mine too as it triggers the light when one of the wheels is off by .5 psi. The only hustle is you won't know which wheel or if one or more and so you'd have to check all of them.
