This sounds exactly like my strategy. I ended up with extra parts from cascade. My A drum was in fine working order, but i replaced it with the alligator one anyway. I definitely needed the needle bearing. Then I ordered from Cobra and replaced the B drum (damaged), 4 "F" split rings (out of spec), C piston (damaged), torque converter (might as well), and a new A drum shim (necessary) after measuring end play.

Was all of it really necessary? Maybe not but I didn't want to be back inside this transmission ever again, so any preventative repair was done with little regard to cost.

Also a weird thing with the cascade master kit. I ended up with some extra clutch rings and frictions. It about drove me crazy. I counted them over and over and over again. Yep, extras. Weird.
