IMO, at some point there will be federal social media regulations/standards just as there are for TV and movies. They will apply to both public and private companies. If left to the companies there will be no universal regulations or standards and most companies, especially pubic companies, will establish standards that generate the greatest stockholder value. Unfortunately, if that is the case, standards will not likely change much from how business is currently conducted. I see no reason that will even be worthwhile trying to do until the house, senate and administration are all of one party. And if there is major resistance from the public it could too hot of a potato to dare address by either party.
