The only reason is if you can't get your axles out. I recently changed driver side so that shouldn't be a problem but I had to invent a tool to push the stuck axle out.
My passenger side needs a new cv boot so that needs to come out anyhow.
There is a small chance the pan gasket not leaking but impossible to tell with entire bottom of engine soaked.
I will probably buy a new egg crate foam before I replace the stiffening plate.
