I agree that it is WRONG to steal music. However, one should be able to transfer the music to your iPod.
A solution is get your music via iTunes and then you can download it to the iPod and make a backup of your music. No more CDs.

One problem with this approach is that the download with iTunes will not sound as good as the CD played on a quality CD player.
