Going to same-size 18s or, better still 17s, will be a cheaper and lot easier way to improve the ride quality. You can retro-fit standard E53 (non-sports) springs and dampers but it won't be cheap. Unfortunately, all the after-market suspension stuff tends to be down the sports end of the spectrum.
One of the big attractions of the 17s is that your spare can fully compatible with your road wheels. With both standard suspension and 17s the ride is surprisingly good even on bush tracks.
