To be accurate, part of this is true: A California dealer must collect CA tax if you drive off the lot. (But not a private party sale). If they truck it out of CA, they should not collect tax.

(If you can get a trucking company to 'truck' it around the block to you, all the better. Just someone with a bill of lading and a truck. Wink)

But Washington SHOULD give you 'credit' for the CA tax you pay. You will not get a refund if CA is higher, but you should not get double dipped.

Typically not worth it with new commodity items.
