I had 7 yrs old passat, I did all maintanance and fix issues by myself, the main reason still keeping it is because I am quite enjoying doing it. It's like a big toy for me.

Doubtful. The problem is even replacing a part often requires the car to be coded. Not like in the old days where you simply replaced a component, and that was that.
You replace the battery in the X5 it requires coding.
I've had a new battery, a new steering wheel (heating part failed), a new park brake assembly (to fix the Auto hold E brake issue), a new rear view camera (intermittent problem with it not working), new iDrive computer and new iDrive screen (they were randomly replacing iDrive components for what really was a software issue with a setting not being remembered correctly. Tried to explain this to them ... but no use and went ahead and replaced stuff. Quite laughable actually). Think that's it. All fixed free under new vehicle warranty.
