No E70 here, but I had a 535i, same platform.

I sold it at the end of the warranty period, same with all my BMWs. There was no BMW extended warranty available here in Canada. If I had kept it, I would have bought a warranty, due to the amount of electronics on the vehicle.

However, I wouldn't expect the price of the warranty to be comparable with the expected maintenance expense. You should never expect to come out ahead on an insurance policy (extended warranty). You should simply ask yourself what your personal tolerance is for a large repair bill, since self insuring will always be cheaper on average. It is the non-average repairs that can bite you. If you can cover an unexpected large repair bill out of cash flow, it will be cheaper to self insure.
