Small chemical differences due to additives and base stocks. Different advertising departments for each of them, so they will each tell you they are the best, or something like that.
Each of them meets the exact same API SM (American Petroleum Institute) standard, so in terms of that independently run certification test, there is no functional difference whatsoever.
Your engine will not know the difference. I used the BMW oil because I got a filter there, and it saved me driving to the auto parts store. If your dealer is not competitively priced, I would still get an OE filter there, but then buy the oil where it is cheapest.
