Great thread,
Twice we have driven the 4.6is from Taos NM to Central Washington State (Lake Chelan), about 1450 miles door to door and then back again. I have driven this route several times so I have the route down. We do 1100 miles the first day about 16 to 17 hours then get an early start and roll into the Lake Chelan area around noon the next day. The trip back is spread out a little more evenly, drive to Salt Lake City about 800 miles the first day then an easy 650 miles the next day. I pull a very small aluminum bike trailer. I set the trip mileage and both times averaged just under 19 mpg round trip.
The X5 is an awesome cruiser. A 12 hour day behind the wheel is like a walk in the park.
