A backup camera is a special type of video camera that is produced specifically for the purpose of being attached to the rear of a vehicle to aid in backing up. Backup cameras are alternatively known as 'reversing cameras' or 'rear view cameras'. The rule that was supposed to be forthcoming from Transport Secretary Roy LaHood concerning back up cameras has been delayed until Dec. 31. Secretary LaHood was said to be about to suggest Congress make back up cameras mandatory on all brand new cars.
