you did check all the fuses, right? and the DSP (if so equipped) responded to the computer, right?
it seems that you have some mechanical issue (EDIT: ) *with a connector being loose or dislodged* or a fuse issue - the radio itself has a fuse on it, separate from the fuse bank...
you did not specify if your car has navigation (radio located in one spot) or has no navigation (radio is in diff location).
Please, give us more technical details about the ride, other then your nickname, it is hard to tell what your 2005 X3 has... or, doesn't have...
