Non Smoker Package - Additional Pieces
Inspired by the great write-up by SuperGreg for the “Non Smoker Ash Tray Installation” I decided to buy the rest of the OEM non smoker pieces for the X5. They consist of the two rear door ashtrays as described below. The part numbers differ for different color interiors. I ordered the black ones for my black interior.
BMW Parts: P/N 51 16 8 249 091 in Black (fits either left or right)

(Not being a smoker in the first place I popped out the metal piece that is typically used to extinguish cigarettes)

Notes: If you are not a smoker and want to do this simple mod here are a few pros and cons with the above setups.
- The original ashtray obviously comes with a flip cover which the non-smoker tray does not have.
- The non-smoker tray is actually a bit deeper and so a bit larger in capacity than the original ash tray.
- If you pop out the metal piece from the original ash-tray you gain a decent amount of space back and retain the flip cover, so in the end this might be the best of both worlds plus it costs you nothing.
