Custom Cargo Net for BMW X5

Contributed by: SterlingX5

Cargo Net Installation
I got tired of the
groceries rolling around the back of the X5 all the time so I decided to
do something about it! BMW doesn't make a pocket cargo net and I couldn't
find an aftermarket one that I liked either. However, I installed a
factory pocket cargo net in my previous vehicle (2K Land Cruiser) and
thought I might find one that would work in the X5. With my tape measure
in hand, I stopped by my friendly local Toyota dealer and measured the
cargo areas of all the various SUV's. The Highlander was a close match to
the X5 so I purchased a Highlander cargo net($45.00)from the parts guy and
drove home to see if I could make it work. It was actually much easier
than I originally thought and only took about 15 minutes once I decided
where to attach it. I thought some of you might be interested in how it
turned out so here's a few pictures:

Cargo Net rolled out and ready to go

Remove small screw in both rear trim panels

Remove snap in cover on both panels and small screw holding panel

Assemble supplied cargo retainer (I added a flat washer for strength)

Gently pull trim panel away from body (weather strip holds it in place)
and mark and drill 1/4" hole in each panel

Insert supplied threaded bolt through 1/4" hole with the flat washer and
screw on threaded cargo retainer until snug.

Success!

You can detach the net and lay flat for loading large items or remove it
altogether
