New Member in Melbourne

Hi all, i am new to the Forum and wanted to say Hello to all Aussie members.
About a month ago i Privately purchased my alpine white 2005 E53 3.0d
it has 235/65/17 tires on type 57 wheels (i think), a panoramic roof, mid (no nav), business cd and bluetooth.a tow pack, black leather, PDC, and boot tray.
All in all everything I wanted and nothing I didn't want.
Part of the purchase included a service and 4 new rotors and pads all round.
Loving the power and safety.
i have named my machine Schtonky after the Schtonking performance of the 3.0d (especially after a 318i)
My first highway drive included a flat tire change but everything else seems great except a click in the steering which I supect will be a double joint in the linkage will i will get seen to ASAP.
My average fuel economy is 11.4, have seen 6.9 on a flat highway. Initial plans include Phillips +80 Globes for low beam (are they H7's) and maybe an ebay titanium grille.
I am interested in who Melbournites might recommend as independant Mechanics (I have used BMtech for my last car with wallet empying results).
My old e36 is for sale on carsales.com.au
regards,
Adam

Welcome. Ive been to BM tech few times and found the price is not far from dealers (may be 10% off max). Jut wondering if it is worth to go there?

Schtonky 03-08-2011 08:23 AM

I don't think i want to go back to BMtech. Although their work is of a very high standard. I was once charged for an ABS Computer that they practically admitted that they themselves had blown. Stupidly I paid for it, never again.

Hi Adam, welcome to Club X (!?!)

I take mine (2005 3.0d) to European Car Service in Richmond (just behind East Richmond station). They always have time to talk about issues and concerns, and are very friendly.

Not sure about how the prices compare (cheaper than a couple of dealers I rang though), but I paid $400 for an oil service and I think Inspection 1 was going to be about $700.

Welcome aboard. There's a few Aussies here with post-upgrade E53 3.0ds, a fine machine and definitely the best E53!

Having the standard 235/65R17s is a great bonus too, not the least the fact that you have a full-size spare that matches your road wheels which is not the case with any other X5.

Thanks all, Nice to be part of the club.

Yes, for sure, there are petrol owners but diesels are in the majority.

Anyone notice that with fuel prices spiking the second-hand E53 V8s are getting real cheap?

Schtonky 03-13-2011 06:01 AM

I have seen V8's going at quite reasonable prices but pleased still bought a 3.0d though. What are the forums thoughts on servicing the auto/changing the fluid and will it cure the "lurch". If servicing the auto could I assume that Aussie auto shops are good with this transmission because it's in the falcon?

huntertec 03-13-2011 06:49 AM

Hi Schtonky welcome to the mostly happy X club, I have a white 2005 Xd as well ( modified ). Regarding the lurch I had the same issue, new software did little to improve the problem so BMW changed my trans oil twice which fixed it, 18 months later still going strong. The biggest problem your going to have is stopping yourself from clocking up the Ks, enjoy.
