Delete Phones

I just purchased an 05 X5 4.4 and tried connecting my phone via bluetooth. However, it seems that the old owner's phonebook is still in there. Is there a way to delete all his old info and paired phones? My bluetooth is the style without the cradle or pairing button. It just has the talk and R/T buttons on the steering wheel.

Just add your phone and it will overwite one of the added phones.

Yes, To delete the old phones, press and hold the pair button (if you can find it or get a new one and plug it in), turn the ignition to stage 1 (radio circuit) and wait 3 seconds then release the pair button then press again the pair button and wait 10 seconds, the car should then beep and the nav screen should say something like "phones deleted".

Never heard of this style before, I'd say you either have one of the following....

1: OEM BT with the cradle (and button) removed by previous owner (for some reason; cup holders???).
2: OEM BT retrofitted by previous owner and the cradle (and button) for some reason has been omitted.
3: OEM BT retrofitted with bemmannav BT kit by previous owner and the button is in the boot (trunk).

All of the above need to have the button located for any pairing to take place, look in the OEM place first for the 18pin connector and go from there.

You can not use the MFSW button to pair or delete phones, it's only for answering or hanging up the phone or using VR.

When you are paring to bluetooth be sure & fascen your seat belt. I know it sounds strange but you need to in order to par.

will it delete the phonebook though?

you see i have added my contacts manually - sent them via bluetooth to my X5.

i have a new phone now which sync its phonebook automatically - but old numbers are still there.

anyone knows how to delete the the contacts?

Anybody have a definitive answer to this?
I have the same problem. After clearing out lots of old contacts from my phone, I find they are still there when I look at the phonebook on the screen in the car, i.e. they transferred from the phone sometime in the past and now I don't know how to get rid of them (nothing to do with paring the phone or voice recognition entries - just the phonebook)

Oooops - been a bit dumb on this one

The phone transferes the phone book to the car every time it connects. I was altering the phone contact list and its the SIM contact list that is transfered - I assume thats the same for all phones

i don't think so - the phonebook transfers in my case (i do not have any sim contracts)

Mines an old first gen bluetooth ULF - maybe that makes a difference?

Works OK though & switched on VR with the excellent Navcoder software.
