Bluetooth TCU pairs, but no audio
I just completed a bluetooth install on my 2001 530 with a TCU. My problem is that I have no audio. I have the antenna installed under the rear shelf in a location where there is no metal to interfere with signal coming into the cabin, and connected straight to the TCU. Pairing was successful. I can see my phone book on the mid. I can call another phone and the call will connect, but I cant hear then and they can't hear me. They can see my caller ID. I can even go through the menu on the mid and see signal strength. I don't have any sound. I can call from the mid, but cant hear anything. I have tried it with the SES jumper and without. No luck. I sure would appreciate some help. The only connections I have are the antenna and the 25 pin to 54 pin adapter cable to the TCU. Could it be a bad or incompatible TCU? I also have the upgraded mic in the stock location.
TCU part number is 4109120843 |
this is strange TCU number... i would think that BT module would start with a 65 number... does E39 call for a pairing cradle and connections in the center console, to send the audio back to trunk? I think E53 needs something in the console looped back to trunk... check with people from bimmernav - Martin should know about it...

I ended up jumping some pins in the 18 pin connector under the armrest. Now I have sound, and can make calls and hear the other party clearly, but they cant hear me. I have DSP, does it make a difference?

well, it seems that you looped back the audio portion of the sound, now you need to loop back the mike portion... I did this om my E39 about 8-10 years ago, so i don't remember a thing... but, i know that i used info from the forums, so, you need to search old forums for the pinout of the 18-pin connector... or, check the WDS...

Thanks. I will continue searching. I jumped pins 11 and 14 on the 18 pin ejectbox connecter to get the sound. Hopefully I will be able to get the mic working without blowing up any electrics!!

My NAV site details the wiring for this, but I don't have the DB25 PIN assignment for that at this time. If the wire isn't obvious when you do the install then shoot me an email and I'll tear into my connector and let you know. That should just about do it. Your radio should mute when you are on the phone, and your car kit should use the factory audio. BTW the microphone is in the headliner next to the sunroof switch. -Andrew |
