wheel, caliper etc repair & painting

Only had car 2 weeks but first coat of NXT tech wax on after nxt quick claying and scratch x treatment first.

I have the star spoke OE BMW sport alloys on my black sapphire UK '02 4.4is.

Maybe half a dozen or so (2-6mm wide & max 2mm deep) scuff marks to one of my rims (not by me) plus a minor score and the odd chip elsewhere. Just wondered if anyone had managed to do a decent spot repair. Done a minor one a couple of years ago just wondered if anyone had had success. I've used spray cans before without distater when patient.

Weighing up diy attempt versus getting wicked wheels to do it, (£65 each wheel in Uk- man in a van - same as sending off for a pro refurb).

Would appreciate any info on best silver match and if bmw have official paint codes for this.

Also my cars calipers and disc centre (hubs) dirty and corroded any ideas tips on deatiling these again info or pics on original colours or those used to retro detail as close to OE look as possible appreciated. ( Hand masked and painted my RX-8 ones in satin silver - lookked better than when car was new but pain inn the A**E to keep clean)

Not planning on doing this immediately so please dont expect in depth pics posted up after the weekend - (spent tooo much time detailing recently so and need to cut down time doing this in fairness to family).

Any info/thoughts appreciated.

First BMW so treat me gently.

can't help on the wheel scuffs because i never tried that. but i do know the local mobile wheel repair guys use a dremel type tool to sand down and polish the scuffs, scrapes, and curb rashes away. they then mix a custom blend of paint to match what the wheel has, then clear coat it.

as for the brake caliper and rotor hat, what you did for the rx8 is the only thing you can do to restore the look. just pick any silver paint and do all 4 corners.

to prevent dust, switch to something like the axxis deluxe pads which will greatly reduce the amount of dust you get (like 90%+)

This should help - Wurth Silver Lacquer part # 0870 598 7841.

Another alternative is to spray the wheels using BMW Titanium Silver which I've seen done on many Bimmers - it looks really good when both wheels and body are the same shade of silver.

vents? what vents are you talkimg about? if you are talking about the vents on the rotor's edge, DO NOT paint that nor anything on the rotor wear surface at all.

the only thing you should be painting is the caliper, the anti-rattle clip, and the rotor hat. you could paint the carrier bracket too, but no one sees that at all...

hyaku ...........I'm no tech guru....lol

I have painted the caliper and the clip that sits at the front of it. When I say vents I meant the alluminium cover that surrrounds the entirity of the disc sitting with it's edge appx 10mm outside of the rear disc. I have not painted the pads.....lol. The large piece of metal behind the disc I will leave as it is not visible with wheels on. I will post a pic or pics when all done.

thanks - done front calipers and clips so far - plenty left to do !

Make sure to paint the part of the rotor which sits flush with the rim. You can cover up the whole rotor while painting it or leave it exposed. The paint will burn up once you apply your brakes.

Thanks again- all this rotor talk confuses me but I will post a pic or 2 when able as all done ( first coat anyway). I haven't painted anything that contacts the pads or discs.
