Posted this in the Cadillac thread, but figured this was the right place to put it!!

Great job Phil, I am a big fan of your shop, product selection, detailed threads, and the fact that you guys are "keepin it Jersey" haha.

My X has a decent amount of swirling and ground in water spots and such, I have cleaned it up as best as I can for the winter and sealed it with Menzerna Power Lock (purchased from you, it's my favorite sealant for the time being), I have some questions on the Cadillac corrected above, as it's a bit worse off than my car but I am going to clean it the same way.

I have a 7424, in the spring when I tear down and do paint correction on my X, I will be purchasing D300 as it obviously does great work on dark paints, which finishing polish should I be using (or what is recommended) afterwards, before my application of power lock? Menzerna Super Finish? M205? And will I need M105 for heavy spots at all? Assuming my paint is similar to the Cadillac, maybe in slightly better shape?

And I would also be getting some fresh pads from you for my spring detail, I'm assuming Yellow pad to use with D300, which pad with my subsequent final polish and then I'm assuming black to use with Power lock?

And last question, I have hard water stains, bird crap stains, or some other form of imperfections on my shiny black window/C/B pillar trim, do I just go over it with the same compound/polish combo as used on the rest of my paint?

Thanks!

sure thing, thanks!

your plan of attack is a good one.

M105 with either a SurBuf Pad or Uber Yellow Pad for cutting.
D300 with a DA Microfiber Cutting Pad
SF4000 with an Uber Green Pad
Seal with Power Lock and Uber Black Pad

Thanks Phil! So D300 is recommended for the DA Microfiber pads to use with, instead of the Uber Orange?

I don't care if i have to get two different kinds of pads if i can get results similar to what you get! Haha

Also, I have a bottle of Einzsett Paint Polish "Lack Politur" (green bottle) that I bought this past spring from you guys, would that work in place of SF4000, or for my true paint correction needs stick to the SF4000 like you recommended and save Einzsett for my mom's Audi and my dad's truck?

correct you will need the d300 and the mf cutting pads.

as for the einszett paint you can use that if you would like it will work. but for full out paint corrections I tend to sway over to the menzerna sf4000.

Duly noted, I will leave the Einzsett for my rents, and use the products/pads you mentioned to a T, i definitely need paint correction in the spring!

Phil I'm getting ready to put a spring order together, does my backing plate on my porter cable need to be 5 inch for the 5.5 inch uber pads, and for the 6.5 inch uber pads it needs to be 6 inch backing plate right?

My 7424 Porter Cable believe it or not was bought back in 2006!

However, I did purchase a velcro backing plate and I believe it came with 6.5 inch pads, they were from "classic motoring accessories" or properautocare.com, purchased before I knew about Detailer's Domain!

If it helps I will measure the diameter of the backing plate when I get home later, I am also using this for the Meguiars MF cutting pads to use for the D300 I will be purchasing!

Another question, are the MF pads from meguiars cleanable like the uber pads, or do they tend to get thrown out after a while? I have my X5 and my GLI to detail in the spring and was wondering if I am good to compound both cars with the 2-pack, or if I should get a 2nd 2-pack of pads.
