How to clean stainless steel exhaust tips??

My X5 has the original BMW oval shaped stainless steel exhaust tips. It seems like the heat has tarnished them and I can't get them to shine again! I have tried wheel cleaners, wheel polish, etc. without any luck. Any 'tips' from the experts on how to shine the tips?

Hi King,
A few of us have tried this method Exhaust Tip fix with good results. It basically involves wet n dry and elbow grease as the factory tips have a semi rough finish to them that needs to be removed. Also give them a polish each time you wash the car (hopefully once a week)

Phil's method is striking as well. Your call, good luck. Post pics pls when finished.

I use P21S polishing soap for the tips on my coupe today. Looks like new.
