Kirk what kind of wheel cleaner are you using? If Sonax Full Effect isn't helping, then it may be time for something stronger on the barrels.

Griot's heavy duty wheel cleaner. I have scrubbed the snot out of the recesses in the backside of the spokes and while some came out, not all of it did.

These aren't concours quality wheels. But I would like to keep them clean and I do have some extra quartz sitting around from my last use (yesterday) that I'd like to put to good use (and the wheels seem like good use!).

Sorry, it'll be a while before I post pics. Had the wheels off for my suspension refresh. Didn't think to take pics.

The 2002 M3 has an inspection II, valve adjust, Besian vanos overhaul, etc. to get done first. It'll be a at least one weekend for me to get that done. Then I'll see about yanking one of our lead bricks, errr, wheels off and snapping a pic or three...sry.

Ok, I had the X5 up on the lift and took a few shots of the problem areas.

so you are worried about the brake dust stuck on the back of the wheels?

what have you used again, one of the wheels look like they have been refinished?

Meg Wheel Brightner, short dweel time.
Isolated pressure wash nozzle on it should knock it out.

Wear eye protection if using the PW

Yeah you need something with more "bite" than Sonax.

I'd second Megs wheel brightener but don't let it sit too long, honestly though those spots on the barrels are clean enough in my eyes, I use the spoke back wheel woolie to keep the backs of my spokes clean but I'm sure mine end up looking like yours.

yes. Not that anyone else sees it, but if I'm going to take the time to quartz these pigs, I'd like to do it right.

I know one of the wheels had some curb rash fixed (my feeble attempt), so there might be some overspray that needs to be dealt with too... Don't know about the rest as I bought this CPO a number of years and ~45k miles ago.

I used Griot's heavy duty wheel cleaner. I guess it's similar to the Sonnax stuff.

I've scrubbed with old tooth brushes and wheel cleaner and this is where the black stopped coming off.

Thanks!
