MY2007+ front brake pads UPDATE THEY ARE DONE !-UPDATE

I wanted to put out a feeler on how many of us with the E70 X5 may be interested in putting together a group buy for ceramic pads. I have been looking for a relative "dustless" brake pad for the e70 for some time and have come up empty. It seems the backing plate availability is the problem. I have contacted a brake pad manufacturer to see what it would take to have some backing plates made. They told me that they could laser cut backing plates if there was some volume interest. They would need 25 sets committed before they could manufacture. This is a highly regarded brake pad manufacturer in the USA ( I am not sure if I can mention their name at this point due to forum rules?). I believe that one of out members has already had pads make for his vehicle. I am in no way connected to the manufacturer nor do I wish to benefit economically from this and this is strickly for forum members only. I am not sure where this will go, but I thought I would check interest. Depending on response and interest we shall see where it goes. The pad cost for front still needs to be worked out (cost to produce blanks), but it should be around $185.00-$200.00 per set plus shipping.

THX.

Hi Forum Members,

I am the chap that had these ceramic pads made for my new E70 X5, I have now traveled some 1400klm on them and had have had no problems. Having owned many BMW's in the past I should have installed them on all my BMW and not put up with all the black brake dust.

Thanks Watrob.

These pads will be made by Carbotech Performance Brakes in the U.S.A.

Speed of the manufacture will depend on getting the blanks for the fronts. Once we get the ball rolling and people show interest then things will begin to happen. This is a feeler thread at this point. Hopefully, fellow members get interested and this will take off. Once I can get at least 15 interested parties then the manufacturer will prepare to have the blanks manufactured, at 25 sets they will manufacture the pad.

I spoke with Carbotech today about the pads. Typically it will take 3 weeks from the date the orders are placed to have the blanks laser cut. We need to get 10 sets before they can proceed to the blanking stage. This would include rear sets if anyone wants them. So if we get 5 members ordering front and back sets that accounts for 10 sets. The more sets that are ordered the better discount we can get. PM me for details or respond to this thread with your interest. You can visit the Carbotech website for technical information. Carbotech Performance Brakes.

E70 4.8i

Front pads- $185.00 USD plus shipping
Rear pads - $147.00 USD plus shipping

E70 3.0i

Front pads- $185.00 USD plus shipping
Rear pads - $144.00 USD plus shipping

They will ship anywhere. There will be a discount applied to the orders based on total volume sold.

Please note:-

Early model 3.0sd (35d) Diesel E70 X5's up to Sept 09 in England & Australia (Europe not sure) had 365mm x36mm front rotors, the D1294 front pads will not fit.

As of Oct 09 the above two models had 348mm x 30mm rotors and the pads will fit as does the 4.8i.

Please make sure if you are a international customer which front brakes you have?

I would be interested in a set of front pads. The dust from the OEM brakes is ridiculous!!
Mine is an Aug 08 35d M Sport - and has the 365mmx36mm front discs.
Cheers

I'm definitely interested, but it's pricey. Tirerack carries Akebono rear ceramics for $83 for the rear pair. I have Hawk ceramics on on my other cars and can attest to the "cleaner" wheels with ceramics. Interestingly, Hawk also sells the REAR ceramics but not the fronts. Obviously, we get more dust in the fronts. But I think I'm willing to wait for Hawk/Tirerack to make/sell them since the cost is almost 50% less.
