It is on the inside of the rim. I guess you could take it out and have it installed on the new rim. I am not sure if your new rim's design can accomodate it. I don't see any reason it wouldn't work.

you'll need to get TPMS sensors installed onto your new rims in order for the light to go off. same thing happened to me when I bought a winter set at TireRack (didn't have the TPMS sensors in stock at the time, but they do sell them installed). I ended up living with the TPMS light for a few winter months and now that my summer rims are back onm, the light is gone (after you reset it in iDrive).

BTW, I wouldn't even want to know how much someone (let alone a $tealer)would charge to install the TPMS sensors onto another set of rims. I think Merchants quoted me like $50/rim, not including buying the sensors!!!

$56 from TireRack rings a bell, but yes, I'd get them from the dealer too with my CCA discount

Does the X5 really have a sensor in the wheel?
I thought that it is like the E63. It has a sensor not in the wheel that detects the difference in rotation of wheels.
I bought my E63 with 18" wheels and installed 20" (not BMW). All I had to do was to go in the IDrive and reset the TPC.

dude i reset that Idrive like 1 million times.and nothing.BMW and bavarian said either take teh sensors out of teh stock rims and put them in teh new set or just get new ones.so for all 4 sensors and valve stems it will be a bit under 200 buck.
