Question Wheels and tire package for 530xit - Opinions?

I'm posting here because E60.net pretty much blows. I've given up on getting anything out of that website.

Anyways, not a big fan of 6 spoke wheels, but I can't resist a bargain. Tirerack has the SSR Comp-H forged wheels 19"x8"on closeout for $289 each (original price $509). That's 51% off last year's price and damn cheap for forged rims.

Opinions? Good / Bad / Keep looking?

My first choice was a set of M3 CSL OEM, but I need to buy 2 sets of front wheels (19"x8.5" et44) as the rears won't work on my 530xit. I'll have to buy cast replicas to get the sizing I need. The replicas would be only slightly cheaper than the SSR's $289 price.

I'm also thinking about getting a set of 245/35ZR19 General Exclaim UHP (ultra high performance) at $128 each. I know nothing about these tires, in fact, I had no idea that General tire was still in business. After doing some research, I learned that it is now owned by Continental Tires. These tires have remarkably great reviews on the Tirerack website. Anyone here own a set of these?

Thanks!

Our customer reviews for the General are very positive, owing in part to the price. For many people, that tire is their first "Ultra High Performance" (summer) tire and so the grip is much better compared to most tires they are used to. I'd say the only tires that would be "noticably" better would be Michelin or Bridgestone for a lot more..Supplies on those wheels are low due to price and them being discontinued, so let me know if I can help !

Doc - How wide can I go on an 530xit? I really wanted 19x10 rear, but the widest wheel that came up on your website is only 19x8.5. There seems to be plenty of clearance inside the fenders, although offset might be an issue. I'm thinking I would need something like a 19x10 et55 to make it work.

Price can be important, But do you really like the package? Or will you get tired of the wheels later? Something to think about. Personally they don't do much for me.

None of our suppliers can get us a 10" wide wheel with the right offset, I'm afraid...sorry.

Great price! I love Tire Rack's clearance prices. When they want to move something they don't mess around.

I would pass on the deal, as good as it is. The size is not what you want and it seems like you're more motivated by price than looks. It is a nice wheel at great price but they look kind of tame, at least as depicted by the picture. I think that to make a Touring look more aggressive you have to go that much more aggressive in the style of wheel. You're already battling the oh-so conservative look of a wagon. I'm not saying go with some bigass spinners but perhaps something with more lip and a more interesting spoke design. Those SSR's look pretty good on E46's and very good on E30's.

Just my $0.02.

My wheel choices are somewhat limited because of the big offset (38-43mm) required by xDrive's wider track and limited wheel well clearances. I haven't found any wheels with a wide lip that would fit. The SSR Comp-H isn't my first choice, but the strength and durability of a forged wheel plus a weight of only 19 lbs. are big positives esp if I'm running a 35 profile tire. But I'm still deliberating. Anything that fits on the front of an E46 M3 will fit my 530xit. Unfortunately it looks like I'm limited to no more than a 8.5" wide wheel.

They don't look bad! As for the General's, they're an awesome tire. My brother has them on his Jetta, and honestly, it's very grippy on dry and wet roads. I may get these for my X5 when my Dunlops die. And for the price alone, it's the best bang for the buck out there for tires.
