Just did brakes

i just did my brakes pad this week as they were metal to metal... i got the ebc red stuff.. as it was the only pad avalible in a short amount of time..
now when i brake it vibrates pretty bad at higher speeds.. is this because of the pad? is it too hard for the soft rotors we have? anyways thanks in advance!
oh one more thing i forgot to add.. it didnt do this before i did the brake pad change..

zulu beat me to it. I was going to ask about the rotors too. since you were metal to metal the rotors deff have a groove in them. Id be willing to bet you can feel the bump in the rotor with your finger and the new pads dont fit in the groove that the OEM pad created.

Did you use silicone brake pad adhesive? If not, that is most likely the problem.

I just did all four corners on my 2000 4.4 with EBC rotors and pads and the same thing happened, the front end shuddered during light braking. I contacted EBC and they sent me some info on "brake bedding". This requires several consecutive 60-20mph brakes and then a cool down drive. I did some additional research on the net and everyone says the same thing. I tried it and that seemed to do the trick, but man do the rotors get smoking hot. You might want to try this and see if it works. Good luck!

The silicone goes between the pad and the caliper, when you removed the OEM pads you probably noticed an adhesive patch on the pads where they contact the caliper. The adhesive patch does the same job as the silicone, stops the pad from vibrating. Good luck

You ran the last pads to metal and didn't do anything to the rotors?! Aye caramba!

You need to take those pads off asap, have the rotors resurfaced (if they have enough material, or replaced) then hope you didn't cut up the new pads too badly. Then bed (burnish) the pads correctly (as was suggested) per EBC spec. They will either have the instructions on the packaging or you can check their website. Call them for the proceedure if you have to.

This usually consists of 7-10 stops from 30 to 10 witout coming to a complete stop, then a few higher speed stops, again without coming to a complete stop. 60-20 seems a bit higher than any bedding specs I have seen to start, but each pad manufacturer has their own spec, so you should check with EBC.

Pads transfer pad material to the rotor surface. This is important, and the reason for "bedding." You can get uneven wear, vibration and reduced braking capacity if you do not do this correctly.

If you do not do this proceedure (specifically the resurfacing or rotor replacement), your rotors may not have been wearing true and/or could have left material in the way of the new pads. I believe this process is on the stoptech site, and is usually the cause of complaints of vibrating or "warped rotors."

I would never put good new pads on old non-resurfaced rotors. They may look good, but could be wearing unevenly and you would not know for a while, until they eat up your pads.

PS - did you bleed the system? I would at least have it bled with new fluid, since brake fluid absorbs moisture and becomes ineffective over a relatively short amount of time.

thanks for the input you guys... the one pad that went metal to metal looked flush no deep cuts in it or anything and the rotor looked good too.. thats why i didnt bother to get the resurfaced... if it still vibrates i will get them turned..

oh i didnt get a change to bleed the system yet.. i didnt have time it got to dark.. i was cleaning the grease from the rims that took awhile.

i hardly use the brakes.. going downhill i will normaly coast all the way down.. only time i use the brakes is if there is a stop.. or a car is coming close..

i think its slowly going away though.. but we will find out later right? i hope so thanks you guys again!! =)

Get em bled. I did only a bleed job once on old crap components and it alone made a big difference.

Good luck on it; hopefully everything turns out well.
