Best Place to Buy Snow Tires
I'm at 45,000 miles on my first set of tires (yes, my wife is the primary driver ) and I'm about to head into winter. I've seen people reference Blizzaks and the Pirelli Scorpion snow tires. If you have mounted snows on your X can you please tell me: 1) Best snow tire to buy? 2) Where is the most cost effective place to buy them? TIA, Chris |

FWIW, I have always bought my winters at tire rack
Even if you don't buy there the reviews are worth checking out. I have Dunlop grandtrek winters and have no complaints. Pirelli scorpion ice and snow seem to be more commonly used and get very good reviews http://www.tirerack.com/ Last edited by Boston X5 4.4; 09-28-2007 at 03:38 PM. |

Tirerack is best place. Dunlop Wintersport and Bridgestone Blizzak LM25 are best.
Should have posted in this forum |

Just curious, are you trying to replace your current tires or do you have winter wheels? If you only have one set of wheels, wouldn't it be better to get all season tires? I don't think it has snowed much here in the past winters to really say you will get your money's worth for snow tires. Just my $.02

Great suggestion. But this is a good excuse for me to switch to 19's when March/April comes around... I'll keep the snows on my stock 18's and buy a 19" wheel/tire package.

Like everyone said, I'd check out tirerack.com.
Pirelli snow tires are good! Personally, I have Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S M+S (Mud & Snow) tires mounted on my stock BMW 18" rims so I can take my X5 up and down the mountain with confidence during winter time here in California (Big Bear, Snow Summit and especially Mammoth Mountain). I bring the snow chains (as required by CHP) just in case but have not used them with the tires since they performed well enough in snow. These tires are also good for use all year round in all types of weather. No complaints here! Here's a big photo (towards the bottom of the page) of the tires on at Mammoth during one of the storms up there 2 years ago... http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...our-x5-28.html

Nokian's would be my choice for winter
http://www.tirefactory.net/Hakkapelitta%20SUV.htm Dunlops M3 or Blizzaks would be equally second in my book. |
