Thumbs up Wheels/Tires for 4.4i X5?

I have a wonderful, fully loaded 2005 X5 4.4i with 19" sport wheels. Unfortunately, with only 38,000 miles I have worn out my SECOND set of tires. Wanting tires that can be rotated (the rear 19" wheels are wider than the front) and that will last longer begs the question...should I buy the smaller standard wheels and tires or is there a better wheel option that will allow longer lasting, rotatable tires while retaining the sport look of the larger wheels? Maybe the 18" wheels from the new (E70) X5?

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!!!

Thanks, Patrick

I have an '04 4.4 sport. The odometer just hit 35,000 and the original set of Damaris' look to have at least 5k left. What are you running?

The only negative to these tires is the noise, so I am looking at the Latitude Tour HP's. We do get some winter weather here so figure the all season will be better than a summer rating.

Even though the Sport pkg configuration cannot be rotated, I have the tires balanced every 10k, perhaps this is a factor, but I have seen claims that 50k on Damaris' are not unheard of. Suspect that something is up with your ride - any input from the tire dealer? Your driving style? Etc?

The problem will not be the rim size but the fact that you have a staggered setup with the rim in the rear wider then the rim in the front. You should have this post moved to the TIRERACK forum for suggestions. You didn't mention what tires you have now but Diamaris aren't the answer. Those are very soft and burn fast, fs_wheel is getting lucky IMO. I went through 3 sets of Diamaris 4x4 in 50,000 miles.

If you choose to drop down to 18's, I have a set for sale of 4 OEM Y-spoke, style 183, 18" rims with Michelin Energy 255/55 R18 tires. See my post listed in items for sale.

Get Kuhmo Ecsta STX tires. I have a set on my 23's that have lasted 40,000 miles and still going with plenty of tread left. Trust me, they're good price and last forever. even look at the review on tirerack, everyones that bought these tires have gone over 20k-30k miles on them

Thanks for the suggestion, but Kuhmo doesn't make Ecsta STX for 19" wheels.

Thumbs up Might sell my sport wheels.

Good Morning Mvez.

My tire guy and I are currently exploring options, like finding two new wheels to match my front wheels or maybe buying a new set of four wheels. Depending on our decision, I may be interested in selling my sport wheels to you. Also, what wheels do you currently have? Maybe we can talk trade?

Thanks, Patrick
