Has anybody had to change the front brake disk yet?

I took my car to the shop today for maintenance and came out that I have to change the brake disk and pads, my E70 4.8 has 30K miles on it.
Has anybody had the need to change their disk (rotor)? It sounded weird since the mileage is not as bad for the rotors to need to be placed. I noticed a strange sound everytime I slam the brakes, but never heard the sound of metal to metal, it was just like it needed cleaning.

Seems about right for your brakes, the x5 is a heavy vehicle with great brakes...Don't feel bad...

If you're doing stop n go, city driving, or such then 30k is just about the right time to service the brakes. BMW recommends that the rotors be replaced with the pads due to the initial thickness of the rotor BMW has specified for the X5. The tolerance from brand new to end of service life is not very much.

Rotors on a lot of other vehicles can be turned once or twice before needing to be replaced. But for many european cars, thats not the case.
