18" Rims fit on 4.8is

I want to buy some winter tires and want to reduce my tire size.... what size can I safely use..... here is the size i'm looking at:

18s will fit over the brake.. i'm not sure about the lug pattern for those wheels though. 18 is the smallest you can go

Ok, the seller brought up something about offset? Here is the info from his rims/tires:

Bolt Pattern: 5x120
Offset: 20

Any ideas?

Thanks again

I am not sure. 255/55/R18 is the smallest I have seen. Do a test fit and find out.
Which style wheels are you talking about?

A cursory glance at a couple of the wheel offset guides found on the web suggests that 20 offset is pretty severe, esp. in comparo to what you are running. That wheel should also "jut out" considerably from the hub; not sure that is what you are looking for in a winter tire situ. With so many oe and rep E70 wheels to be had, I am surprised you are so enthralled with those that fit an M5...just my 50Cts.

Thanks for the info... I just don't know any better, that is why i'm asking the stupid questions lol

Yeah any OEM type wheel will work, again wanted 18" for winter. I'm checking ebay, but do you know where to find some oem or whatever rims so I can put snow tires on?

What offset am I looking for, for a 05 4.8is? 48?

Thanks

Dunno what wheels you have, but most of the E70 wheels are in the low to high 40s, offset-wise: 48 is
identical to several of the oe wheels.

I would limit your search to E70 type wheels, either in oe or replica version;
eBay has a bunch, and 18s turn up here in the For Sale Forum with regularity.

Or, if you don't mind a non-oem look, hit that Tire Rack site you linked, plug
in your car, wheel dia desired, and they have a few pages of aftermkt wheels.

I realize "looks" are important, but sliding around Boise in the winter may require
a serious set of dedicated snow tires and the wheel look may be less important
to you. Hard to know exactly, every one's winter driving conditions and needs...

ET20 is not good for the X5, unless you like paint peelers. OEM will be ET48 for the most part, aftermarket about ET42 or ET45.

I was going to go with aftermarket rims from TR because I couldn't find any OEM locally. I like OEM for strength and not having to use centering rings, basically I know it fits. Then 2 weeks ago, I saw a set of OEM style 58 on ebay and no bids, I made a lowball offer and the guy accepted.

This really sucks though cuz someone local just put up a set of OEM style 69 for sale (which I like better). Murphy's law I guess.

Keep checking ebay and Craigslist, or go with a TR package.
