Th article also says that the next-gen 5-series and the next-gen 3-series will be longer than the current E60 and E90. That should give you an idea.

Wow. Is BMW intent on making all of their new cars bigger? We know that the E70 will be bigger and heavier, partly to accomodate the third row seats, so now the 5er and 3er is to be longer? I would think that if they are longer then they will be wider as well to maintain proportions. How do you think this will affect the character and handling of these models, and the 3er in particular?

Bigger is not necessarily better. The size of the 3 series has been one of its strong points - somewhat compact on the outside, but packaged for a decent sized passenger compartment. If BMW upsizes their lineup across the board, they better get off the dime and bring over the 1 series and plug the gap on the smaller end of the size spectrum.

The reason it says 5er will be bigger that it will target E class and CLS class. 3er will be longer as to make some difference between 1er and 3er. I think BMW will put enough tech to make sure they handle like a BMW.
