I'm going off E46
-1999 (into)
-2000 (coupe and convertable)
-2001 (new engines)
-2002 (facelift)
I suppose the new engines DID come for 2007, that just seems quite premature
You have to remember that the E46 facelifts (sedan & touring vs. coupe & cabrio) did not occur at the same time. Plus, BMW will prolong the time between the sedan & coupe facelifts even further than on the E46 because the cars look so different no anyway (they were designed as 3er & 4er, remember?).

Thus the sedan refresh will have nothing to do with the refresh on the coupe or cabrio, as that will come at a later date. The sedan refresh is meant to steal MB's & Audi's thunder as their new cars come into the marketplace...
