This naming is getting out of hand. It ought to be the 2010 (or whatever) 545i. That puts it in line with the 4.4 litre displacement. 555i is a mouthful, just like "Xdrive50i".

Eventually, BMW wants to have TT engines only in its lineup. I4 TT to V12 TT.

VGT's are great. You end up with a smaller package/ lower displacement, the most perfect tq and power curves and easier emissions tuning. Direct Injection plays a huge part in this. I'm glad they're doing it.
