Z2 roadster coming in 2012
Z2 ---------------------BMW Z2------------BMW Z4 Wheel base----------2400 mm------------2500 mm Length--------------3900 mm------------4100 mm Height--------------1250 mm-------------1300 mm Width---------------1750 mm------------1800 mm Z2 is called internally the secret weapon, which is to recover lost terrain starting from 2010. While the next Z4, which carries the development contraction E89, was already abgesegnet by the executive committee, the Z2 draws still its waiting loops on the sky over the Isar metropolis. As fixed the following basic data are considered: • more compact dimensions as the Z4 • motorizing only special equipment offer reduced with four-cylinder aggregates • • independent optics • lightweight construction primarily by omitting instead of by expensive materials • optionally than Z2 Speedster and Z2 M representably. This miniMali-table-dynamic model is a lower windshield, forward swept overroll bars and a scarce-sitting emergency-covers to receive. The flared wings, which custom-made nose and tail aprons as well as the larger wheels the Speedster hearing divides after with the Z2 M. the weight is with most modern technology is clearly reduced. Instead of 1220 Kilos as with the Z4-Vierzylinder stand for the Z2 Speedster 970 Kilos in the area Although Z2 and Z4 divide among other things front cars, elementary Crashstruktur, electronics platform and wheel suspensions, the small Roadster is conceived as formally completely independent car. To the particularly salient style elements of the Z2 belong the wheel arches, which extremely short overhangs, unusually sharp edged at the upper conclusion, which strong introductions between front and rear axle, which relatively steep windshield and the high tail, in which a 150 litre small trunk hides itself. From Autoweek:
Press reports from Germany suggest BMW is readying an affordable roadster below the Z4 to challenge the Mazda MX-5 for supremacy in the entry-level sports car market. The new two-seater is said to be the centerpiece of a plan devised by the German carmaker’s outgoing chairman, Helmut Panke, to extend what insiders describe as the Z-car lineup. Just as the German carmaker’s X-car lineup was expanded to include the X3 and X5, BMW also sees demand for a Z2 to complement the existing Z4. The Z4 moved upmarket to challenge the Porsche Boxster when it replaced the Z3 back in 2002. Details remain scarce, but insiders say the new entry-level model would take at least four years to bring to market, suggesting it probably won’t arrive until after the next-generation Z4 arrives in 2009. The Z2 name is likely, considering it was trademarked by the German carmaker as long ago as 2001. As with the Z4, the new car is likely to share components with the existing 1 Series and 3 Series models to keep costs down and streamline development. That makes it highly likely the Z2 will be built alongside the next-generation Z4 at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. AutoWeek sources say the Z2 was conceived with four-cylinder power only, most likely with normally aspirated 1.8- and 2.0-liter engine choices. Also under consideration is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder performance model with up to 300 hp. The latter engine is already under development. It is expected to appear in a hot version of the 1 Series, as part of a program that will see BMW introduce a range of new turbocharged engines to its lineup in coming years. Transmission choices should include a standard six-speed manual and an optional double-clutch unit with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. Source: Autoweek |

2011 BMW Z2
Some PS by TopSpeed:
BMW is preparing an affordable convertible, as a competitor for the very roadster inventor, the Mazda MX-5. With the release of the Z4, BMW made its compact roadster a lot more luxurious and expensive, as it offered the new car only with straight-six engines. Which higher price-tags, the Z4 was never a match in term of sales for its predecessor. The affordable-roadster role will be taken starting with 2011 by the new BMW Z2. The sales of the Z4 are not at all satisfactory for BMW. It wouldn’t be that the car is not better in any way than the Z3, but it doesn’t offer anymore the cheap four-cylinder engines, that made the top-sales. As the Z4 was placed higher in the BMW hierarchy, there is an unfilled gap, where a competitor for the Mazda MX-5, an affordable, simple and fun to drive car should be. In order to fill that empty space, BMW will launch a completely new smaller roadster, with less than 4 meters in length. A lot lighter than the Z4, the new model will offer engines with no more than 2,000 cc, but instead will compensate by using turbochargers, that will allow for a top of the range M model to reach 300 bhp. The low-end model will feature a 1.8 liters, naturally aspirated engine with 150 bhp, not exactly a supercar, but a moderate fast and affordable BMW, capable to deliver driving excitement. The technical platform will be shared with the next generation Z4, but it will be lighter and slightly simplified for the Z2. Also minimalist in conception, the Z2 will not be entirely stripped down, and will offer goodies such as the active steering, dual clutch transmission or dynamic adjustable dampers. The BMW Z2 will be priced under the $30,000 range and is expected to make its debut in 2010. Source Last edited by LeMansX5; 03-20-2009 at 11:45 AM. |

Wow! That looks awesome! I especially like the dynamic looking headlights and the grill. The rear could be more sophisticated though.
