Come on get real, it looks nothing like a Lexus... just look at the wheel center emblems, they are definitely different.

Hey I believe the goofy side marker light was slapped on by BMW's lawyers.

Apparently what happened was that the guys who were moving all the cars into the convention center when the car was introduced moved the "BMW" to the Lexus stand. After 3 days on display no one seemed to notice until a 3 year old kid of one of the Lexus VP's asked his dad why the new "Lexus" had BMW rims. His dad called Toyota immediately and no one in Japan knew either. So late at night he (the VP) sneaked into the display area and swapped the rims back to OE Lexus units. The next morning when the BMW guys showed up and found 4 rims sitting in the middle of the convention center without a BMW attached to them they of course went crazy and called BMW NA, which of course didn't know about the rims, the new model, or even the convention; though they were quick to state that whatever happened isn't covered under warranty. So anyway, the BMW guys then called BMW AG who sent an engineer out ASAP and he made the discovery that the new BMW was on the Lexus stand. To avoid a lawsuit he agreed with the lawyers to glue on those lights, which btw are decorative and serve no real purpose. Rumor has it they'll peel off in the rain or at any speed above 65 mph (so don't follow one unless you want a funny looking sticker on your windshield) which believe it or not is a design feature of the glue since in the USA the cars are all stuck in traffic and haven't a prayer of hitting 65.

The only similarities I see are the light pipes in the taillights, and the fact they are both large four door sedans (limosines to those in Europe). Before anyone says BMW copied Lexus because it came first, please remember car companies lock in designs way ahead of any prototypes visible on the streets. It's just a coincidence that the light pipes in the taillights take a similar sweep upward at the corners. Some interesting opinions in here, I mean for a BMW forum....

I seriously doubt that the 5 series as you say "will have most of the benefits"
that a seven series has. Nothing in the past has suggested that it will and
so far the 5 series has not had the luxury stamp that the 7 series has had.
If it did then the lines of comparison between the 5 and the 7 series would
be blurred and we all know thats not the case.

Is a 5 series a more reasonable size and price for a BMW? That is of course
a personal choice. But if I had the coins I would pick the 7 over the 5 in a
heartbeat because it is big and luxurious.

I saw it a few weeks ago at the dealer. STUNNING is a good way to describe the car. It's gorgeous, one of BMW's best yet.

It's all so generic these days, unless you're from Stuttgart.
