:: ECS Tuning :: E90 M3 ~ Build Thread ~ Watch It Change Before Your Eyes...!

We purchased a 2008 BMW E90 M3 with roughly 40,000 miles on the clock! This new project vehicle will be fitted with some of the best aftermarket parts in the business in the hopes to add some performance and a more aggressive appearance to this German monster.

Yet, before we get into that, for those of you who don't know, let's take a look at the E90 M3 Sedan and what it has to offer.

Based off of the E90 3-Series, the M3 features a 4.0-liter V8 with 414 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Unlike the coupe version of the M3, the sedan lacks the optional carbon fiber roof, making it 22 pounds heavier than the two-door.

When the pedal is pressed to the floor, the speedometer will read 60 miles per hour in 4.3 seconds, but our goal was to decrease that time and improve handling five fold with various parts from our inventory! All of which can purchased from our site.

Some of our initial upgrades include an intake, a world renowned exhaust system and some carbon fiber bits as well.

Upon arrival, our Alpine White E90 M3 Sedan was in pristine condition, but here at ECS Tuning, cars don't tend to stay stock for very long.

We planned to use some of our BMW performance parts on this gorgeous machine, improving its overall appearance and performance capabilities.

Some might be asking why we chose this sedan over the coupe and the answer is simple. As it features four doors, the E90 M3 is far more practical, but just as quick off the line in everyday situations. Not to mention the fact that the sedan packs a certain real world charm that the coupe just can't match.

Under the hood, the M3 features a fantastic 4.0-liter V8 that is rather sophisticated to say the least. The engine features a version of BMW's Double VANOS camshaft control, individual throttle butterflies for each cylinder and a lightweight forged crankshaft that helps the car work flawlessly at higher RPMs. The engine was chosen as the International Engine of the Year in 2008, 2009 and in 2010!!!

Taken a listen to it in its stock form...

The V8 engine in the M3 certainly doesn't have a high-pitched racing sound too it like a high performance exotic, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. With the throttle pressed to the floor, the exhaust note is crisp and has a deep sound to it, but under normal driving, it's quiet and refined.

Stay tuned for more.....!

The Next Episode...

The stock suspension in our BMW E90 M3 Sedan was rather good on the track to say the least, but rather good will only take you so far in this industry.

We wanted a fantastic setup with a stunningly gorgeously ride height, so we chose the KW V3 Series Coilover Kit that offers track worthy performance and dual dampening technology.

The separate and independently adjustable rebound and compression dampening allows for the user to fine tune the setup for the best handling available.

Once installed, our vehicle was much lower, giving it a more aggressive appearance on the road and on the track.

On the road, the new coilover kit proved its worth, as it was firm enough for performance driving, yet comfortable enough in everyday situations!

Now on to a little eye and ear candy...

Today's vehicles usually feature engine covers that hide what a brilliant piece of engineering modern motors are, so needless to say, we took off the engine cover on our M3 and played with the throttle a bit.

We managed to capture that stunning sound on film, which you can hear.

When the RPMs climb, the engine in the M3 sounds brilliantly aggressive!

What do you think!?

The next modification that we made to the vehicle's engine was a new aFe Performance

Intake, a system that represents true race-inspired technology. Once installed, these intake systems

have the ability to increase performance, as well as fuel efficiency.

When you use an aFe Intake, your M3 will receive more power, more torque and better throttle

response. On top of that, these intake systems will deliver an incredible growling sound and a new

and improved appearance under your hood.

The intake features a heat shield that will make sure that it doesn't use the hot air around your

engine and only allows the intake to use fresh, cooler air, which in turn, increases performance.

Now we needed some added stopping power. For this, we turned to our ECS BBK brake kit that not

only looks brilliant, but it performs far better than stock.

This ECS Brake Kit comes from the experts here at ECS Tuning, as you can see from the pictures.

The rotors are 380mm in the front and 356mm in the rear.

There are six pistons in the front brakes and four in the rear, ensuring that you get maximum

stopping power whenever you need it.

Weight reduction is a crucial component to a vehicle's performance, so we removed that heavy

trunk lid and replaced it with lightweight carbon fiber. This Carbon Fiber CSL Trunk lid added a nice

performance look to our M3, but it also helped reduce the overall weight of the vehicle.

After all was said and down, we decided to highlight the carbon fiber by paint the majority leaving

only a slight strip of the weave showing.

Stay tuned.... wait till you see...or well HEAR what next :str8pimpi...
