I had a friendly relationship with a sales manager at an MB dealer, and they called the AMV the "stupid tax". This was years ago, and that kind of thing was common with just released and hard to get models. I wouldn't think it could fly in most places these days except on truly exceptional vehicles.

Don't think style 87 will go with aesthetics of X5 ///M. That would be like putting E39 M5 wheels on E60 M5.

This whole wheel discussion reminds of when the 4.8is came out and all the 4.6is drivers (including myself) hated the new wheels. However, after a few months, the 4.8is wheels grew on me and came to like them better then the 4.6is version (to old looking).

Personally, after looking at the X5 ///M wheels for the past few months, I've actually come to like them as the design goes with the X5 ///M design a lot better then the X6M version would (and vise versa).

I gotta agree: BMW X5 M looks great in silver bmw-x5-m-silver-2 ? BMW BLOG ... that's one menacing machine in silver about to overtake you. The lines are great. The large front vents work because the vehicle is a bit lower.

But that rear is pretty weak: http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/08/30/bm...x5-m-silver-3/
- needs wider stance or thicker rears
- exhaust area is customary M styling, but on a large vehicle like this it needs some work. It looks like a bolt-on there.

I disagree...i think style 87's are timeless and classic. I think they'll go well with any aggressive design. I've got either X5/X6 ///M in mind with a second set of wheels in powder-coated or gunmetal 87's. Will work on a photochop...

Why doesn't this look like the Silverstone on the E90 M3s:

Are there different version of Silverstone? The E9x version seems to be more green/blue colored, whereas the X ///M version looks like standard/normal silver.

I agree. That silver looks amazing.. But i think that's the titanium silver that I had on the E53 4.8is and the 4.4i.

They're not offering that color on the ///M. Just Space Grey and Silverstone II.

Yeah I had Titanium Silver on my 4.6is as well and it looked great.
For some reason Silverstone looks horrible on the E9x M3s, yet in these pictures of the X5M, it looks great. Its probably just the light.

I'm probably still going with space grey, however, I wish it was a little lighter in color because it looks a little "plain-jane" for my taste.
