Hit a HUGE pothole and lost a front tire...

I was driving tonight and hit a huge crater size pothole. Was unavoidable. Afterward, the Right tire low pressure warning came on. The tire was flat and has a 6 inch cut along the sidewall. I ended up driving it home on the run flats. Going to take it in tomorrow. What a hassle!

That sucks. Did you get the wheel and tire insurance? The wheel looks OK though. *fingers crossed*

If it makes you feel any better.....One of the reasons I bought the X5M was to avoid so many of those "unavoidable" situations. In 18 months my Jag XF SC went through 5 tires and 3 bent rims. This is normal suburban driving mind you. To add salt on the wound, the tires are highly specialized Pirelli's and cost close to $600 a piece and are a 4 day wait at the best performance tire shop in the City. The Dealer sometimes even had a 24 hour wait.
Your pothole must have been a crazy crater!

My brother is up to 10 on his B7. I think he is the reason BMW increased the cost of the wheel and tire insurance. Gotta love driving in NYC/NJ...

Looks like there is a crack in the wheel too. You should be sure to check it out.

WOW....

While the front side of the wheel might be OK, check in the inner side to see if there is a bend. I have my rear wheel that is off balance. The inside of the wheel has a bend and was not noticeable from the front side.

I hope you have the insurance thingy....my dealer never told me about that and I have suffered at great expense the cost of tires during my 80K in mileage JUST for tires....

Good luck...

Thanks guys... luckily I purchased the wheel and tire insurance. The car is at the dealer now. They are ordering the tire for monday and they said the wheel is fine. I'll be sure to have them check that the inside part of the wheel isn't bent.
