Same here, the X5 M doesn't feel as powerful as my former Porsche Cayenne Turbo S for example but I think this is because the turbo boost on the X5 M comes much more spontaneous and linear, in the Cayenne Turbo S is was kind of a "wait a second and BOOM..." boost distribution.
All I can say is: the X5 M is fast. This is what counts most. What I don't like at all about the X5 M is the exhaust sound. Absolutely horrible.

All I know is that I passed a modified STI on the OUTSIDE of a two lane cloverleaf on-ramp to the highway. Never saw him again.

True. I would agree. If you really want punch, I hear there are still some 930 turbos still out there...

Agree on exhaust as well. The car makes a lot of weird noises. But I still love her.

I agree with everyone who says that the X5M is deceivingly fast. You don't really feel the acceleration in the "butt dyno" but when you look at the speedo, you're already flying. The car cruises at 80mph and feel like it's going 40mph. At 100+ mph it still feels smooth and doesn't feel like you're going that fast at all.
In comparison, our S600 with V12TT feels a lot faster. When I accelerate from 0-60 you really get that sensation of being pushed back into your seat, like when an airplane takes off. I haven't had a chance to do any side by side runs between the two, but the numbers are pretty similar.
So, again, it's going FAST... you just can't tell. lol.
But, I also agree that I would like the feel of the acceleration more than what it gives us now. Accelerating in the S600 feels amazing.

I think my calibration has changed with age! lol

Try this: empty road, windows down (all), stereo off and do a couple 0-100 runs with your left hand out the window. You should be impressed.

I used to work for an independant Porsche dealership and would drive customer cars home every night. Some modded north of 800hp (awesome for 20 years ago!) The best 'feel' of acceleration was a 1978 930 turbo with a dyno'd 700 rwhp. The reason it felt so good was that it made almost no power from 1k-4k revs, then exploded with un real power. Hard to drive but E X hilerating! I think a lot of todays cars are designed with this (safe) flat torque curve. Every manufacturer brags about how flat the power and torque curves are, when in truth the engines that build power with revs feel faster to the calibrated butt. IMO

Watch this vid as the turbo boost hits....

It all depends on a driver...

A great driver in a 4.6is or a 4.8is will take an amateur driver in XM any day of the week, There is more to it then, just turning wheel and steping on pedals.

I think cayenne turbo S and ML63 are pretty close to XM actually, i would say even as well

^^^ LOL. Hate to break it to you guy, but there is NO way a 4.6, 4.8, even new 5.0 is going to touch the XMs...just a different league comparing those cars.

The only close race is the Cayene Turbo S, but XM has been shown to beat it out...ML63, RR Supercharged both get smoked. Check around for info...

Car and Driver got 4.1 seconds 0-60 on a X5M....

I also have memorized the numbers guy, from a standstill pushing the pedal anyone can do thaaat!!

But going on a 10-15 Mile run on twisty roads, well that will depend on a driver and believe me a great driver in earlier and slower models, will still hold an edge to a rookie in an XM

Read up. The X5M went around the ring in Germany around the same as the E46 M3...it's more of a track car. Perhaps the Cayene has better handling, I don't know.
