Another electrical issue...
I went to the X5M this morning to get something out of it. I noticed that the glove box DVD player was shuffling. Thought it was odd but did nothing. Got in the car an hour later and it was still shuffling. Turned the car on and got a whole bunch of warnings (SOS malfunction, high battery drain etc). The radio, iPod, CD, DVD Bluetooth, phone or SOS do not work. Last time this happened, it resolved itself. When I took the car in last time, they could not find a reason. The backup camera is supposed to be fix while it is there. I am concerned that there seem to be a lot of little gremlins. I am going to go out on a limb here and bet that they do not find the problem. My guess is that it resolves it self, they cannot find the cause and give it back to me and say "Its working now." What do I do next? Tell them to keep it until they find it? Say OK but if it happens again it’s a lemon. This really sucks. I love the truck. I miss it when I am not driving it. It seems like it has been in the shop an awful lot. M |

have no fear
hopefully you have a good relationship with your dealership. if you do and the problems persist BMW will buy you out of it and put you in something else. i know this from experience. i have been in the unfortunate position of having to have went through the process on 2 different cars. BMW wont make you go through the lemon law BS to make things right, they take care of their customers. the only problem is that its the dealership that gets it done.

Sounds like a high battery drain issue. Seems to be a gremlin plaguing all of their cars. Issue is that the car doesn't "sleep" after you turn it off, draining the battery, etc. Has happened to me on 2 cars. On one, fried the car and was in the shop for a month. On other, they couldn't find so they tried to blame me (obviously) just trickle charged the battery overnight and it didn't reappear. Sorry that it's happening to you. Keep us posted.

Welcome to the gremlin club.
My X5M was new in March and it's been re-flashed twice. The rep from BMWNA said (in writing) the last time it was in one more time and they'll do what they need to do to make it right. Including buying back the car if I want to go that route... |

I have been stewing about this issue all weekend. So I went and looked up the Wisconsin Lemon Law. It states the following:
What is a "lemon"? A new vehicle - no more than a year old and still under warranty - is a "lemon" if
I am at three tries for the rear camera and twice for the general electrical issue. All said about 14 days of me not being able to use it in the last 6 months. If I was OK with the car being this big of a pain, I would have bought a Range Rover. One other thing is starting to really piss me off. The dealer keeps giving me a 2 door 328. Let us forget the fact that it would not out run the X5M even if you threw it off a building. If I could live with a two door (essentially a 2 seater) I would have bought a 997turbo. I just don’t feel like I am being treated the way someone who buys over $100k worth of cars every two years should. Do I deserve the right to be pissed? Or am I acting like a child? Would I be having any of these issues if I had bought the Cayenne? Thanks for letting me vent. Comments welcome. Happy 4th. M |

it appears that my post which was the first reply to your post fell on deaf ears. but since it seems like you missed it, in the last 12 months i have had enough problems with 2 different 2009 BMW's which were bought back by BMW and im not talking about 328's. one was a 535 & the other was a 750Li. you can waste as much time as you care to researching lemon laws and whining on and off of forums. heck you can even waste a bunch of time of going through the long process of the lemon law if you want. but if by some strange chance you may be to the point of wanting to listen, listen up. whenever you have a problem, typically the only people that care are YOU and someone that stands a chance of making a profit from caring about your problem. and if you spend the money with your dealership that you claim i can assure you that there is nobody else that would care about solving this for you than them! i suggest that you get with the service manager first and if you dont get anywhere go to his boss the general manager. BUT leave the ranting, threats and bad attitude at home! its not these guys fault that your having these problems but they are the ones that can help. BE patient! i know the frustration better than anyone. try going from a 750Li to a 328i! but if they cant get your rig straightened out they will take care of you and you will come out waaaaaaaaaaaay better than if you went the lemon law route.

Thank you for the reply. No your first reply did not fall on deaf ear. I appreciated it. While I may rant and rave a little on this forum I certainly treat the dealership and the people that work there with a great deal of respect. I understand that the quality issues are not their fault. But I do appreciate the reminder that you can catch more bees with honey. I would like to clarify a couple of points. I am talking about a $100k X5M not a 328. The 328 is the loaner they keep giving me. I posted the lemon law purely because I was interested. I would anticipate that BMW would step up long before we got to that point. While I do spend out $100k in cars every two years, it is not always one car or at one dealership. I like different kinds of cars and I move a lot. Certainly kills my leverage. One thing that has really irked me about this experience is the blasé attitude of the service department. The first time the electronics went dead. They gave the car back explained that they could not find the problem but it was working now. It could be just a regional attitude difference. Thanks M |

i certainly understand the poor attitudes of the service dept clowns, especially in a case like yours or on my 750Li. they dont see enough of them to have experience with them. and "we dont know whats wrong with your car" dont sound good no matter how creative they choose their words. until your last post i was 100% convinced that the service dept clowns at my BMW store were the biggest idiots out there and sounds like they have the same attitude too. but believe me, the service manager or the general manager can make things better. in my case it took the GM as a buffer between the service manager and myself. coming from someone that knows first hand your frustration believe me when i say "if this is the biggest problem you have, you dont have no problems" a man told me a long time ago, "if hundred dollar bills can fix the problem it just aint a problem."
