BMW Tire and Wheel Protection Value?
They quoted me $1998 for 5 year plan. Is this worth getting? Roads aren't bad in my area and rarely get anything more than a nail/screw, but have had 1-2 blow outs in 20 years of driving. Dealer cautioned that the X5M tires are easy to damage and run $800 each. Is that possible? BTW, which part of the SUV experiences chips and needs the 3M film most? I read somewhere than the fenders experience excessive chipping. Thanks |

The Bridgestone runflats aren't anywhere close to $800 a piece. Like $300 at tirerack. Flats can be repaired depending on where the hole is like any tire. I think its a rip off.
I 3m'd the entire lower rocker panel and about half way up the rear wheel lip. Seems to be doing the trick.

Thanks.
I just learned that Discount Tires sells road hazard certs for new tires even if on a new car bought from dealer. $22-30/tire. They also informed me that tires run around $336. BMW Dealer really tried to play me...had me going. Going right out the door. lol. I appreciate the feedback. |

3M on rocker panels is more important, otherwise you will end up painting them soon. I believe BMW is now offering a packaged dealer option for that. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ar-wheels.html |

I got the deal when I purchased the vehicle. The salesman was basically worried about the wheel damage that might occur. I've used it twice to replace tires with large nails/screws they picked up. Dealer did it with no problems. So in 1 year I've got about $800 of value out of it.

I paid $1000 for my tire warranty plan. I bought an '08 4.8 with the 20"s in September. It came off the truck from L.A. late night--next day I literally drove it 10 minutes and I got 2 screws in the rears--dealer replaced the tires. Two weeks later I picked up another screw--dealer replaced the tire. Worth the money IMO--mine is a 5 year plan--I'm sure I will be back.

I paid $675 (thought it was less) for 3 years.
At the time I thought it might have been a bit of a rip-off, but when I swapped out my summer tires for the winters, I found a big hunk of metal in one rear/summer tire and a big nail in the other rear/summer. Covers tires and wheels, so any unfortunate curb-rash will not be your problem if you have the Wheel Guard. In this case, it looks like it may work in my favor. For $2K I'd tell them to take a leap.

At $1998, it is a ripoff. Typical coverage should be around $900-$1000 depending on term. Be careful with the hazard insurance offered from tire stores. Read the fine print as it only covers typically 1 replacement per corner. So, if you have two issues on the front right, you are only covered for 1 of the 2 occurrences. I've had 6 BMW's in 6 years and for the first 3 I didn't purchase coverage. After $3,000 in issues, tires mostly and 2 wheels, the coverage is a no-brainer. If you have 1 occurrence with a pothole, you've basically paid for the coverage assuming the tire isn't damaged. If it is, you already have a 25-50% return on your money.

I paid about $1400 and since I curbed 2 rims already; it was a good buy.
