I have a similar sound when I first drive it. Started during the weather, they probably are right, its likely the pads moving around till they warm up a little...

I first noticed this after they replaced the power steering pump. I had them listen and they agreed that they heard the sound but then came back and said it was normal and was occruing on both front brakes. They had someone brake while the car was on the lift. Still I didn't think it use to do this nor was it noticeable in the new 2012 X6M I recently drove. It's annoying but does not seem to negatively effect braking perfomance in anyway.

I think I have the same sound too. I agree it wasn't there when the car was new. For me it started maybe half a year or so after it was new. I also notice it when I hit a bump with both front tires evenly, going at a slow speed. For example, when hitting a speed bump, I hear the same tap sound as when I initially hit the brakes. Or, when pulling into a driveway and it hits the curb edge at the end of the driveway. As a result, I think it has to do with the suspension on my car.
I have had the dealer try to fix it several times but each time they think they fixed it and when I picked up my car it still made the sound. I've given up at this point.
