BMW will do a country wide M drive on track with new M5 and M6 later half of this year. They will have 2013 X5 M and X6 M there too as pace cars and probably M3 as well. Event is usually by invitation only. So if you have an M car or BMWFS customer, you may get an invitation.

I am assuming that you are getting quote on 2012 X5 M as facelift 2013 will be out in late April/early May. 2012 X5 M will be even cheaper when 2013 is out. probably below invoice.
Check this link and configure your car here--> American Express | Car Buying Home Page I am seeing $4900 off base MSRP (with no options) on 2012 X5 M. |

I had heard rumors of X6 M CRT edition last year, but nothing recently. Limited edition M3s are limited and hard to get....they will probably have 20 or 40 sold in 20 minutes.
![]() BTW, worldwide sales of X6 M were more in 2010 then X5 M per the M-division sales figures. |

I believe the answer is always "it depends". It depends on traction and the track. The X5M with all that torque and all-wheel drive explodes out of corners. Get a track with tight low grip corners and the X5M has a really good chance of beating the M3. Because of the power, it may do well on a track with long straights. The biggest downside I feel for the X5M is it's brakes. There is just no getting around the 5,500 lbs.

i have both cars and i can see how depending on the track it could flip either way but i deff would NOT say there is no way a m3 would beat an x5m 100% of the time

Autoblog posted this afternoon a video of Alex Zanardi at Laguna Seca making a similar pass in 1996 as the X5 M did at the corkscrew turn at the Laguna Seca video in OP.
